Review: Finding Alexei by Kendall Ryan

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

Finding Alexei is the final book in a collection of standalones that share recurring characters, and yes, this book really can be read as a standalone. Penned by bestselling author Kendall Ryan, this sports romance is light on the former and a good amount of the latter and made for a highly enjoyable read. With a professional football player who knows a thing or two about making a baby coo in delight and a woman tingle with a whole different sort of delight, the titular character in this romance is one who won my heart while making me wish he existed in real life.

When her roommate disappears without a word, leaving only her infant daughter behind, Ryleigh (no last name mentioned!) does the only thing she can think of: take care of baby Ella, even if it means having to work in a strip club as a waitress. When a customer gets too handsy with her, a man who introduces himself as Alexei rescues her...and continues to be an unlikely hero to Ryleigh and Ella by offering them a place to stay. But Alexei isn't some regular guy--he's the linebacker for the Chicago Hawks and he's about to change their lives in more ways than one.

Warning: I'm about to try and be all witty by doing a play on words--I'm glad I found Alexei (see what I did there?). The guy would have anyone smitten with the way he swooped in and helped Ryleigh and Ella out while still making sure to give Ryleigh the need to feel like she isn't taking advantage of his kindness and generosity. The girl had a strong backbone, but she also had one hell of a giving heart. I adored these two together and while I would have wished for a bit more depth in both character and story development, Finding Alexei is still a 4.5-starred love story. ♥
