Review: Just Say Yes by Samantha Lind (Indianapolis Eagles #1)

Just Say Yes is a second chance love story and the first in the Indianapolis Eagles series from Samantha Lind. Scott Taylor and Becca Phillips were once very much in love, the direction of their relationship seemingly headed to a happily-ever-after involving an engagement that would lead to marriage. But Becca puts an end to their fairy tale-like story, calling quits just as Scott's career as a professional hockey player hits its stride. Each time Scott returns to their hometown, Becca makes it a point to keep her distance from him, not wanting to make him see that she's still as in love with him as she was when they were a couple. It's been eight years since they parted ways, and one fateful trip back home has Scott finally crossing paths with Becca. This is the chance he's been waiting for, and he intends to pull out all the stops to prove to her that they were always meant to be together...but will she say yes?

Stories that fall under this particular trope tend to have a fair amount of angst to them, given that there's a past that the couple in question needs to contend with. In the case of this series starter, there's barely any angst at all, and while my addiction to angst doesn't demand that every story be seeped in it, I do look for even a dash of it. This was free of drama, making it a pretty straight-up, fluffed up love story about two people who were once in love, split up, lived separate lives, and then finally get back together because, well, they've never loved anyone else. The author's writing was okay, though there's a tendency of a whole lot of telling rather than allowing the reader to actually experience whatever is going on with and between the characters. I would have also wanted more hockey to this hockey romance, but if you're looking for a feel-good story, Just Say Yes may suffice. 3.5 stars. ♥
