Review: Enchanting Sebastian by Kristen Proby (Big Sky Royal #1)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

Bestselling author Kristen Proby has a brand-new spin-off and it's series starter is a royally enchanting one. The Big Sky Royal series is spin-off of Proby's Big Sky novels, which itself was a spin-off of her Love Under the Big Sky books. Enchanting Sebastian is the series starter and it's about the Sebastian Wakefield, better known to the rest of the world as His Royal Highness Prince Sebastian and first in the line of succession. With his thirty-fifth birthday just a couple of months away, Sebastian realizes how limited his time is before his parents--particularly his father who is the monarch--step in and find him a wife to marry in order to secure the line of succession. Flying to Cunningham Falls, Montana and spend time at a close friend's resort was a way for him to figure out his next steps, but Sebastian certainly never expected he'd propose to a woman he barely knew. But there was something about thirty-one-year-old Nina Wolfe that fascinates him. She's beautiful and independent and her experience as her famous actor brother's publicist and manager would help her cope more quickly to the demands of being a princess. They're going into this arrangement knowing full well that it isn't a marriage borne out of love and that's only one of the complications, but could a fairy tale ending really be that far off once enchantment turns into love?

This was a really great opening salvo to the new royalty slash small-town Big Sky Royal romance series, with Kristen Proby peppering the series starter with enough of her past characters from both the original Love Under the Big Sky series and its spin-off, Big Sky, to add an air of the familiar and comfortable to it for fans and readers while introducing a new cast of characters that will be recurring. The Wakefields aren't necessarily patterned exactly like the Windsors, but then Proby does mention that she's taken a lot of liberties with her royal family and their protocols. In short, don't expect how the royal family and their staff here to speak and act the way you think real-life royals would. It's fiction and highly entertaining fiction at that! I liked that what Sebastian and Nina shared was this spark of attraction and connection in the beginning and then readers get to see it grow and evolve as their story develops. Now, I love anything to do with royalty, particularly European royalty and the history that leads to where they are in the present, and I admire Proby's take on her own fictional British royal family and she's really made it her own. Sebastian and Nina's story showed their differences but highlighted their similarities and how true love can come even when you both agree to not fall for each other. I'm giving Enchanting Sebastian 4.5 stars. ♥
