Review: Six Years Gone by Jessica Gouin (Gone #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

All it took was six weeks for seventeen-year-old Sawyer Matthews and eighteen-year-old Lachlan Williams to fall in love until Lachlan was called home to his native Australia, forcing him to leave Sawyer behind. Six years later, their paths cross again, and while neither one is the same person they were before, the love they share is still very much alive. But with all the secrets that were kept in those six years, will Sawyer and Lachlan get to their happy ending?

Six Years Gone is the first novel in author Jessica Gouin's new series, Gone, and while it's touted as a second chance love story, the end left me with a bittersweet taste in my mouth. Okay, not really bittersweet. More of WTF. I admit it: I. Was. Pissed. After everything that happened between Lachlan and Sawyer and then for it to just end that way? Argh! I was not a happy camper. And maybe it was a cliffy, but damn it, there should a moratorium on cliffhangers during the holiday season. I also don't know how you come back from that kind of too evil cliffhanger.

The first half of the book was okay, though I did have a tendency to drag more than I would have been okay with. I did like Lachlan and Sawyer as main characters and their love story had its high points, especially once they were reunited after those six years had passed. If you've read more than your fair share of second chance romances, the biggest secret being kept is rather easy to figure out, but it still played out pretty well and the dynamic among the more prominent members of the cast of characters was engaging. Overall, Six Years Gone was a good second chance romance and won't be my first and last Jessica Gouin read. This NA series starter gets 3.5 out of five stars. ♥
