Review: Room Service by Poppy Dunne

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Book Enthusiast Promotions and WordSmith Publicity in exchange for an honest review.

When Alexandrina Harrington called for room service, she never imagined she would be asking the hotel staffer to be her date to her younger brother's wedding or that she'd actually be paying a guy--albeit a really hot one--to stand in as her fake boyfriend during the momentous occasion. But that's what happens when Alex's overly critical mother to inform her at the last possible moment that her ex-boyfriend has been invited, not just to the wedding itself, but to the rehearsal dinner as well and that he's bringing his new girlfriend with him. Ben Williams isn't just gorgeous to look at but he's genuinely a nice guy with a more than functioning brain behind the lickable brawn. He may not be the highly successful, wealthy man her mother insists she should be with, but Ben is perfect in every other way. A fake boyfriend to take to a wedding? Three hundred dollars. Falling for said fake boyfriend? Priceless.

This romantic comedy is the debut release of Poppy Dunne and it looks like her writing career is of to a great start. Room Service was a lighthearted romp with a mix of things that were familiar and creative touches to make it feel fresh. Alex needs a date and Ben is right there in front of her, so why not, right? They click instantly and the whole getting-to-know-you part in their fake relationship allows Ben to get to know Alex better, a requirement since it's her family that he's going to be surrounded by at the wedding. And yet, Ben remains a mystery for a good portion in the story, so that when a twist is thrown in--a twist I knew was coming but wasn't a hundred percent sure what it was--you're kinda, sorta, maybe taken by surprise. Alex's ex was a douche but her brother and soon-to-be sister-in-law were adorable and Alex and Ben just clicked. Room Service delivered in all the best possible ways. 4.5 stars. ♥
