Review: The Protector: Mac by Lisa B. Kamps (Cover Six Security #1)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via L. Woods PR.

It’s been a couple or so years since I last read something by Lisa B. Kamps, no thanks to my overly packed schedule, so the opportunity to read the first full-length novel in her brand-new Cover Six Security series was one I wasn’t going to pass on. The Protector: Mac is the story of Gordon MacGregor, aka Mac, a former Army Ranger turned security expert, and Tabitha Meyers, who prefers to be called TR, a journalist for a newspaper. TR has always had a thing for Mac, and while Mac has a thing for TR, as well, he’s chosen to not act on it…until one night, and it’s a night that changes the trajectory of both their lives. With TR’s life at risk, Mac and the rest of Cover Six Security will need to figure out what really is going on and who truly is behind it all. Time’s running out, but Mac is prepared to put his life—and heart—on the line for TR.

The author did a great job with this romantic suspense story, one that was a wholly creative and successful shift in sub-genre, since my almost all of my past reads from Lisa B. Kamps were some of her hockey romances. From the pacing of the story to the development of her main characters, Kamps has left me rather impressed with this series starter, and has definitely elicited excitement on my part as to what could be awaiting readers in the next book. There is a prequel novella, Covered by a Kiss, that was released prior to this full-length novel, and while I never had the opportunity to read it, I was still able to fully enjoy Mac and TR’s action-packed story, one that was peppered with humor and nicely balanced with both romance and suspense. 4.5 stars for The Protector: Mac, and thank goodness book two comes out soon! ♥
