Review: Strong by Kylie Scott (Stage Dive #4.5)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the publisher.

I'm pretty sure Kylie Scott's Stage Dive series has graced quite a few lists when it comes to favorite rock star romance reads, and there are several good reasons for that. I should know because the series is on my own list, and when I found out that Scott had a novella up for release as part of the series, well, let's just say I may have squeeed in delight. If you're a fan of the series like me, then Martha Nicholson and Samuel Knowles shouldn't be strangers to you. Martha is younger sister to Ben, Stage Dive's bass player whose own story was told in Deep, aka book number four in the series, and ex-girlfriend of David Ferris, the band's lead guitarist who kicked the series of with Lick. On the other hand, Sam has been the band's head of security for years, quietly observant and protective.

Martha and Sam have known each other for nearly a decade, which is why it isn't really a secret just how much of a spoiled brat Martha can be. However, she's done her fair share of growing up over the years, especially after moving to New York...or at least that's what she's been telling people. Sam is still holding off on casting final judgment on that bit of news, but there's no denying that no woman has ever affected him as much as Martha ever has. Of course, Martha doesn't quite believe that Sam is the least bit interested in her, at least, not quite in the same way as she is in him. But what sort of coupling could these two end up having? After all, she's the partying playgirl and he's the broody bodyguard, but can Sam and Martha possibly make beautiful music together?

This was a sweet and sassy addition to the Stage Dive series! The whole opposites attract thing had me wondering how these two would ever find any middle ground, but I loved Sam's quiet yet supportive way of knowing when to back off and when to step in. He's got the alpha vibe, but not once does he ever treat Martha as if she's some hapless female that needs him to rescue her. I liked seeing just how much Martha has grown from how she was before, and that she's found a place for herself both personally and professionally. Speaking of the latter, I'm curious to see if the author will be releasing a book about Adam. Adam who? Well, you'll just have to read the novella to meet him and see why I think he's worth writing more about! Strong receives four stars out of five stars. ♥
