Review: Gone Missing by Jami Davenport (Gone Missing Detective Agency #1)

I've read a few of Jami Davenport's sports romances before, so her newest release was a surprise, what with it leaning more towards romantic suspense. Gone Missing is the first in Davenport's Gone Missing Detective Agency series, and it brings together a thirty-three-year-old former Army Ranger turned private investigator with a fledgling business and a twenty-nine-year-old woman who only knew a life of wealth and comfort. When Rebecca Galbraith overhears her brother and her father’s trusted right-hand man discussing getting rid of someone and learns the next day that her father’s long-time assistant is found dead, she goes to see a PI named Bronson Warner. Becca wants Bronson to prove her suspicions wrong, but in order for him to get close to her family, the two need to get married. They set the ground rules for their marriage of convenience, but when very real feelings and very real attempts at murder bombard them, nothing feels convenient at all.

This was an entertaining read with an almost campy feel to it. There’s a naiveté to Becca that made me wonder if she was more clueless than sheltered. Bronson was the guy who knew all too well how bad the world can truly be, and the merging of his life with that of Becca’s proved to be an interesting contrast. The need for them to get married in order for Bronson to be in close enough proximity to Becca’s brother and their family home and business to dig for answers seemed rather extreme. I mean, it’s not as if he didn’t have any other resources at his disposal that would have allowed him to learn more—plus Becca’s money should cost have been an issue—but I guess the whole marriage of convenience thing was necessary so as to bring the two main characters closer together. The mystery as to what was really happening and who the bad guy or guys were held my attention as much as the burgeoning romance, so I’m giving Gone Missing four out of five stars. ♥
