Review: Never Look Back by A.L. Jackson (Redemption Hills #3)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

"You think I don't love you, Aster Rose? You are the very meaning of it. You are the one who taught me what it meant."

Where do I even begin with this review?! I've enjoyed the heck out of the Redemption Hills series, but I do believe I've just finished reading my favorite one among the three currently available novels so far. Never Look Back is the story of the youngest Lawson brother, Logan. This is a second-chance romance, and it most certainly made my angst-addicted self quite happy. Ironic, I know. But then, there's a reason why A.L. Jackson is one of my favorite go-to authors when it comes to romance, suspense, and angst. And this new book? Well, it is, hands down, one of the best stories she's penned, at least in my humble opinion. While this can be read as a standalone, I'm going to go ahead and recommend that you read this series in order--Give Me a Reason, Say It's Forever, and Never Look Back--because I think it'll make for a more well-rounded reading experience.

Logan Lawson does not like to lose, but then he's good at everything he does--if he does say so himself--and never hesitates to take a risk. So, when the man who took the one thing that meant most to him sits across from him during an illegal game of poker, Logan pokes and prods until the man puts that very thing he took as his bet--his wife. And while it's been seven years since Logan last saw Aster Rose Costa, there's no denying that he still wants her. Neither one of them may trust the other, but Logan sees something that makes him wonder if the life Aster has lived has been a charmed one. When she reaches out to him to seek his help, two things become abundantly clear to Logan: Aster wants nothing to do with her husband, and now that Logan has her, he's never letting her go ever again.

THE TENSION! THE ANGST! THE FEELS! GAH!!! I read this novel in one sitting, which, in hindsight, may not have been the wisest thing for me to do when I decided to start reading just a little past midnight considering it's about 500 pages. But I have absolutely no regrets because Logan and Aster's story was EVERYTHING. There was heart, and there was heat, and in between, there was suspense and all of the angst someone like me could ask for. Somehow, this felt like it brought everything about the Lawson brothers--Trent, Nathan, Jud, and Logan--full circle. There were swoony moments, as well as steamy ones, and there was a lot of wit and some heartrending times, and yes, I may have even teared up. A.L. Jackson worked her magic with this, and I happily reaped the rewards. Never Look Back isn't the final Redemption Hills book, but it is my five-plus-starred favorite one.
