Review: Pin Me Up Proper by Cathryn Fox (Breaking the Rules #2)
Pin Me Up Proper is the second novella in the Breaking the Rules series from bestselling author Cathryn Fox but is surprisingly not published by the publisher of the first and third books in the same series. However, since it's listed as the second book on the author's website, I went ahead and read it and am reviewing it as part of the series. This sequel features actress Janie Monroe, who has always put great value on the control she has in any sort of relationship she engages in with the men she dates. When cameraman Kaden Ward sets his sights on her, she thinks his quiet and geeky persona gives her enough of an idea what kind of guy he is. She may have had plans of seducing him, but it's Janie who gets the shock of her life when she realizes that there's a side to Kaden she never imagined existed and she's quite tempted.
I wasn't as taken by this second story as I was by the first one and I think it had a lot to do with how everything played out. Kaden liked to share everything with his best friend, Tate (no last name), and that held true with Janie...until it didn't. While I appreciated that the story didn't go in the same direction as countless other ménage stories, the transition from being a threesome to a twosome felt abrupt, plus I couldn't help but feel bad for Tate, who already looked like the third wheel from the beginning but was such a nice guy that I really hope he ends with Maria (who has no last name either so maybe they're meant to be) since the third book is already about Angie Stanton. The story was okay and so were Janie and Kaden, but this sequel was just missing that spark, which is why I'm giving Pin Me Up Proper four stars. ♥
