Review: The Redemption by Nikki Sloane (Filthy Rich Americans #4)

“To the world, you’re a villain. What if you could rewrite the story and become the hero?”
I drew in a slow, deliberate breath. “That’s not possible.”
“Why not?”
“Because, Ms. Alby, I’ll never be a hero.”

This book was everything I didn't know I needed! When I was done reading Nikki Sloane's highly evocative and absolutely addictive Filthy Rich Americans trilogy last year, I wasn't looking for anything more. Lo and behold, Sloane offers up The Redemption, and it's about none other than Macalister Hale. Yup, THAT Macalister Hale--the one who wreaked havoc on the lives of his own son, Royce, and the woman they battled over, Marist Northcutt, now Hale. Fifty-five-year-old Macalister was the villain in their story, but when twenty-six-year-old Sophia Alby offers a shot at redemption, will he take it along with taking her body...and maybe even her heart? But happy endings aren't for villains like him... Right?

Well, will you look at that! It was going to take a whole lot of convincing for me to even believe someone like Macalister Hale was worthy of redemption, and Nikki Sloane more than showed me he was someone who could change for the better. Sloane whipped together one heck of a story for him and paired him up with a formidable female main character in Sophia Alby. I was intrigued from the beginning, became invested, and by the end, the story paid in dividends many times over. This author is able to switch from romantic comedies to darker romances with suspense and mystery mixed in, and she has yet to disappoint. The Redemption can be read on its own, but I highly recommend you read the first three novels--The Initiation, The Obsession, and The Deception--for a more well-rounded experience. Seriously, you will not regret doing so. Five-plus stars. 🖤
