Review: Lexington and 42nd by Kim Carmody (Off Field #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review.

Lexington and 42nd is the first book in the Off Field series and is the debut novel of Kim Carmody. This was a lighthearted contemporary romance with a sports angle to it and features twenty-five-year-old Aussie Emma Lexington and thirty-year-old star quarterback for the New York Warriors Will Jensen. Emma is sent to New York as part of a work exchange program, and while she has very little to knowledge of professional American football, she wants to show everyone back in Australia and those she's working with in New York just how good a she can do. However, Will proves to be one distraction she never expected, and pretending the chemistry between them doesn't exist only seems to amp up the attraction. Can Emma be the ambitious career woman alongside pursuing something special with her quarterback?

This was a pretty good series starter and Kim Carmody deserves props for doing a commendable job with her debut as an author. The main characters are highly likable and fairly easy to relate to, although there were times that Emma's self-sabotaging ways had me feeling frustrated, especially since it was clearer than day how drawn to Will she was and vice-versa. Between the two of them, Will was my favorite and was nothing like the stereotypical star football pro who had a manwhore reputation. Theirs was a slow burn romance and seeing their relationship develop over a fair amount of time helped make it look like they were in it for the long haul rather than a quick roll in the hay. All in all, Lexington and 42nd kept me entertained and I look forward to reading the sequel in this sports romance series. This gets four stars. ♥
