Review: Strict Confidence by Skye Warren (Rochester #2)

Skye Warren returns to her Rochester trilogy with the second book, Strict Confidence, and here, we've got even more intrigue and tension. This picks up soon after the events in the series starter, Private Property, which means that yes, you do need to read this books in order because it carries a continuing story line involving the same main characters throughout. The third and final book, Best Kept Secret, is due for release in August, so if you're the sort of reader who doesn't like being left hanging, it may be better to wait a bit.

Fair warning: I may end up mentioning something in this review that could prove to be spoiler-y for anyone who has yet to read the first book. Jane Mendoza and Beau Rochester, as well as Beau's niece and Jane's ward, Paige, may have survived what happened in the book one, but there's a heck of a lot more that they're forced to confront and deal with in book two. Jane feels like she's lost whatever footing she may have established with Beau. He may push her away, but Jane intends to stay, if only for Paige. If she's honest with herself, she wants to stay for Beau, too. But honesty seems to be in short supply, especially with Beau keeping secrets, and it's the very secrets that put her at risk.

As always, Skye Warren kept me on my toes, but that ending?! Goodness, it left me gobsmacked. I was literally speechless with that cliffhanger, and while I know two months isn't that long of a wait between books, I'm desperate for answers. I now have more questions that I'm compiling, all thanks to the revelations that came to light in this book. There's heat and romance as well as mystery and suspense here, and Warren wraps it everything well with fantastic storytelling that keeps things at a steady clip. I'm giving Strict Confidence five stars, and I'm counting the days until Best Kept Secret is out!

Review: The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan (Roommates #1)

I do believe I've found myself a new book boyfriend to drool, erm, swoon over in Cannon Roth, male main character in bestselling author Kendall Ryan's Roommates series starter, The Room Mate . This had a familiar romance trope--falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling--and yet I didn't find it boring or tiresome in any way.
