Review: Adrift by Isabel Jolie (Haven Island #2)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Xpresso Book Tours.

Adrift is the second novel in the Haven Island series by Isabel Jolie, and it's left me feeling a wee bit...adrift. This can be read independently of the series starter, Rogue Wave. Penelope Smith and Gabriel Chesterton, aka Poppy and Gabe, are the main characters, and their story begins with a chance meeting that leads to Poppy divulging an interesting tidbit about herself to Gabe--she has an OnlyFans page. Her subscribers love the content she offers (for a fee, of course), and Gabe's curiosity is piqued. These two are opposites; he's a billionaire and she's got bills--lots of them--which is why she made the decision to do OnlyFans. He's interested, but she knows all too well that the two of them cannot last.

Isabel Jolie can write, of that there is no question on my end. After all, I did enjoy Rogue Wave, as well as Lost on the Way, which was my first read from Jolie. The problem I had with this book, however, was the fact that I simply didn't have much affection for the male main character. I understood that Gabe had a completely different sort of upbringing and the people he surrounded himself with were mostly unlikable, but not all individuals who are brought up with and around wealth are asshats. I did like Poppy, however, and while I didn't always agree with the choices she made, she was someone who knew she deserved better and worked hard for it. So, I'm awarding Adrift three stars.
