Review: Crash by Stacey Brandon & Karen Bell (Crash #1)

Crash is the first novel in the series by the same title from the writing duo of Stacey Brandon and Karen Bell and is about Charlotte "Charli" Herrington, a waitress at a bar and an aspiring writer, and Logan Mitchell, a corporate lawyer who aspires to make partner in his firm. Their first meeting is filled with insults and innuendos from two of Logan's friends as they order drinks at The Crash, the bar where Charli works. Calling her "Chuck" doesn't exactly win Logan points either, because as much as Charli isn't the usual type of woman he's attracted to, he's undeniably drawn to the little spitfire. They don't fit into the respective plans they've set for themselves, but as their feelings deepen, will they be able to reconcile their expectations from one another when it comes to both their personal and professional lives, or are these two going to end up having to choose between chasing the dream of reaching their career goals and finally taking a chance on being with the one person that could bring them dreams they never considered before?

This book was such an unexpectedly pleasant surprise of a read. I found myself smiling and laughing as Charli and Logan tried to pretend their attraction was nothing more than a temporary lapse of sanity. Then there was Olivia Garrett, Charli's best friend and one heck of a surprising comic relief. Charli and Logan's love story was lighthearted and fun, the perfect example of a romantic comedy read with just enough of drama and angst when conflict comes knocking on their door. Charli was feisty and refreshingly honest but still sweet, and Logan was a man after my own heart, although his decision to keep his relationship with Charli under wraps with his work friends bugged me and his reasons weren't all that great either. The last chapter felt kind of abrupt, especially since time had passed between it and the chapter before it, and I didn't understand why there was a lack of action on Logan's part even after all the changes he had made. Still, Crash was a very fabulous read and one I would happily recommend. 4.5 stars! ♥
