Review: "Bound to the Bachelor" by Sarah Mayberry (Bachelor Auction #1)

Note: This ebook was provided by Tule Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Lily Taylor would do anything for those she loves most, so coming up with a bachelor auction to help out one of her best friends and her godson was the least she could do. Rounding up six bachelors to be auctioned off wasn't exactly a piece of cake but she made sure to get guys who would bring in the most money. She's organized the whole affair and has no real plans of bidding until an unexpected inheritance from the one person she loathes makes her decide to put the money to good use and ends up placing a bid on the very man who refuses to have anything to do with her.

Beau Bennett's focus right now is on his security business. He doesn't have time to be in a relationship and he prefers it that way. When he's asked to be part of the bachelor auction that'll benefit a good cause, he can't say "no," but finds himself in a quandary when the winning bid of ten thousand dollars belongs to the one woman he's stayed away from for five years. Her being a former stripper has nothing to do with his choice to remain aloof. If anything, he senses the chemistry between them, and that's exactly why he would rather not get involved with her, lest she be a distraction.

Both Lily and Beau want the date to be a done deal as soon as possible. The last thing they both need is to be around each other longer than absolutely necessary. The chemistry is even more palpable now and being friends is something they're not sure they're going to be able to deal with since it would require being in each other's presence. As soon as the date ends, they'll go their separate ways and life will go back to normal. However, Lily's past is about to return in a way she never expected and Beau's instincts go beyond wanting to be a good friend that will protect her.

Bound to the Bachelor by Sarah Mayberry is the first book in the multi-authored Bachelor Auction series and lays down the foundation for the rest of the books in that it explains what brought the auction about. Lily and Beau are enjoyable main characters, especially since there's a snarkiness between the two of them that belies the attraction that never of them realize is quite mutual. They're also genuinely nice people, willing to do whatever they're able to in order to help out someone they care for. I did find the whole falling in love part a bit too quick but not entirely improbable.

Lily's past is one that involves some measure of abuse so that may be a trigger for some readers, but there is nothing overly graphic about the way the incident and what happens to her in the present. All in all, this was a quick but pleasurable read and one that will make you curious about what happens with the other five bachelors who were part of the auction. This can be read as a standalone, though the story of Beau's sister Andie and her husband Heath can be read in Make-Believe Wedding, but I'm not sure if Lily and Beau are introduced there. Bound to the Bachelor gets 4.5 stars. ♥
