Review: "What a Bachelor Needs" by Kelly Hunter (Bachelor Auction #4)
Note: This ebook was provided by Tule Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Mardie Griffin survived being married to an abusive man and while she has to scrimp and save every dollar she earns, she's much happier being a single mom to her daughter Claire and living in a house that needs a great deal of TLC. While her family knows bits and pieces of what she endured with her ex, the one man who saw just how low she was after a particular beating was the very same man that Mardie used to fantasize about when she was younger and, if she's honest about it, still thinks about up to now.
Jett Casey has always been competitive and knows what it feels like to win championships and medals. Life has been good but he's never forgotten the woman he saved in an alley two years ago. When his path crosses with hers again, it's at the bachelor auction in Marietta, Montana and her friend has just bought him as a gift. His injury may prevent him from doing anything skiing-wise but he comes from a family that's good with their hands and he's ready to be her handyman or anything else she may need.
Mardie welcomes Casey's help but makes sure that he doesn't do more than he's supposed to, something he can't seem (or refuses) to understand. Casey sees that Mardie needs more help than she's able to pay for and does what he can, looking for bargains and discounts because he knows she'll refuse anything that's given to her for free. In the span of a week, the two become even closer and the bond they shared two years ago grows to something more, but is Mardie ready for someone like Casey in her life?
Written by Kelly Hunter, What a Bachelor Needs is the fourth, and my personal favorite, book in the multi-authored Bachelor Auction series. I loved Mardie and Casey, especially because Mardie was independent but knew when she needed help and because Casey respected Mardie's need to pay for the materials used in the makeover of her home while still doing whatever he could to help. These two were sweet and funny and such a joy to read in a light-hearted story about second chances and survival.
For those who are interested in reading the story of Ella Grace Emerson and Cam Sawyer, both friends of Mardie and Ella being the one who placed the highest bid on Casey, I've just added What a Bride Wants on my TBR list. Looks like I've got another series that will be keeping me occupied once I get through all the books I need to read and review this March and April. ^.^ For now, I highly recommend you check out What a Bachelor Needs because it fulfills what romance readers want. Five stars for this gem of a book! ♥
