Review: Hiding Places by Skye Warren (Rochester #4)

Hiding Places is the fourth novel--but fifth overall release--in Skye Warren's Rochester series. Originally released via the Radish app, it's now available on e-retailers. This is Emily Rochester's story, and she's paired with Mateo Garza, her brother-in-law, Beau's, best friend. She is all too familiar what it's like to be tied down to abusive relationships, whether it be through blood or by marriage. But now, Emily is getting a second chance to live her life free of the shackles and be the mother her daughter, Paige, truly deserves. With her testifying against her brother for the murder of her husband, however, Emily finds herself hounded by paparazzi. She finds solace in Mateo, a man she has grown to trust. She's also developing feelings for him, and it seems like he feels the same about her. But someone appears to be intent on silencing Emily, hoping to ensure that whatever she has to say in her upcoming memoir will never see the light of day. Will evil triumph and destroy the hopeful future that Emily may have with Mateo and Paige, as well as that of Beau and Jane?

This was a great addition to the Rochester series, serving as both a spin-off with Emily and Mateo's romance and a look at where Jane and Beau are now at after the end of the original trilogy. I loved being able to "touch base" with the original Rochester main characters, because let's be honest here, those two seriously left their mark. Seeing how much growth there's been in Jane and Beau's relationship was so darn satisfying. That's not to say that Emily and Mateo's story was subpar. As a matter of fact, this particular couple had a whole lot of tension going on, and I'm talking about the good kind that makes you want to turn those pages faster to see what happens when they finally give in to the connection they've been trying to resist. Of course, this wouldn't have fit into the series if it didn't have that element of suspense to it, and Skye Warren did not disappoint. Everything ended as it should have, with that feeling of satisfaction and hope for everyone--well, at least those who mattered--involved. I'm handing Hiding Places a well-earned 4.5 stars!
