Review: One Night Standards by Heather M. Orgeron (Booze & Bad Decisions #3)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

Heather M. Orgeron is back with the third novel in her Booze & Bad Decisions series! One Night Standards is a falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling / rock star / second chance romance. Whew! Did you catch all that? But there's a lot more to Samantha Deluca and Lyle Livingston's story than the aforementioned tropes. Getting signed to be the bassist for The Rhett Taylor Band was a dream come true for nineteen-year-old Lyle, but it also meant having to leave their hometown, his family and friends, and the girl who owned his heart--sixteen-year-old Sammi. He promised their time would come, but for now, he wants her to live her life to the fullest. He thought they had time, but when he's invited to her wedding, he realizes it's run out. However, luck--thanks to a jerk of a runaway groom--could be on his side. This rock star may actually get his girl at last...but will Lyle have everything he's wanted after all this time or is this just a bad decision (minus the booze)?

There are times when even an angst addict like me just wants something that isn't laden with complexities and tear-inducing scenes, and this week has been one of those times. Reading Sammi and Lyle story brought me such joy. It was relatively drama-free, and the one bit of conflict was easily resolved. Yes, they loved each other even when they weren't together, but they also lived their lives, and I'm glad that they didn't hold anything that may have happened with other people in the past against one another. These two are just in their early twenties, and they handled a lot of what was thrown their way with a sense of maturity I found refreshing. To be fair, though, they also relished their life together, and they truly lived up to the adage of living, loving, and laughing. It was fun catching up with Rhett and Korie and Nick and Raven, and I'm really curious if Aiden is going to be paired with the most (un)likely suspect... But I digress! Back to Sammi and Lyle because One Night Standards is their book after all, and I SO enjoyed the heck out of it. Five stars!
