Review: If Not for Love by Rebecca Jenshak

If Not for Love may be my third Rebecca Jenshak read, but it's the first one that falls outside of her Smart Jocks series. Told in dual perspectives, this is the story of Brecken Blackstone and January Lyle (bonus points for her first name, which is a personal favorite of mine). Brecken was a man who had the world at his feet and wanted for nothing. After all, he's achieved success, has no problem when it comes to women, and has more money than he knows what to do with. But then he meets January, a woman who's left behind all the trappings her life once had in order make it on her own. She's struggling to make ends meet, and she desperately needs a job. Brecken is drawn to her and makes her an offer she can't refuse. Maybe it was their circumstances that had their paths crossing, or maybe it was fate that led them into each other's lives, but will it be love that'll keep them together?

I quite liked this book! Chemistry a must when it comes to the main characters in the romance novels I read and Brecken and January had it in spades. While this had bits of angst, this was still a mostly lighthearted and fun story, one that I got a whole lot of pleasure in reading. The story was paced well and aside from Brecken and January being highly likable, the development of their characters once they become entangled together was done well and in a believable manner. This book was exactly what I needed after reading far heavier and darker stories, and while I do prefer having even just a dash of angst added to my romances, sometimes, you just need lighter fare that will leave a guaranteed smile on your face by the time you get to the end. That's what I got with If Not for Love and so far, it's been three for three with my Rebecca Jenshak reads and I hope the trend continues. This receives 4.5 stars. ♥
