Review: Heart by K.M. Neuhold & Nora Phoenix (Ballsy Boys #3)

A parole officer, a porn star, and a gamer walk into a bar... Well, okay, there's no bar to speak of, but there are those three personalities in the third full-length Ballsy Boys series from the writing duo of K.M. Neuhold and Nora Phoenix. Entitled Heart, this is an MMM romance involving twenty-two-year-olds Gunner Harris--aka Heart--and Mason Redman, the porn star and gamer, respectively, and thirty-three-year-old Lucky Stone, the parole officer. Having a criminal record made it difficult for Heart to find a job, but landing one in gay porn isn't something he's going to complain about. His parole officer, however, isn't too thrilled about it, which is just one of the reasons Heart makes it a point to rile Lucky up each time they meet. Being judged for having sex in front of a camera is something Heart doesn't need, so he appreciates having friends like Mason who accept him wholeheartedly. When Mason asks him to help him work on his bedroom skills, Heart wholeheartedly agrees. He's drawn to his friend's kind nature, but he's also drawn to Lucky. What happens when all three men realize that they are tied together?

Romance reads that involve three people, whether it be MMM or MMF or MFM, aren't automatic reads for me, but when I'm familiar with the author's or authors' writing, I'll dive in because I'm willing to trust that I will, at the very least, get a read that'll keep my attention for however long it takes to finish the book. There have been quite a number of threesome romances that simply didn't click with me, even with an author whose work I've loved in the past. For a book like this to really call to me, I need to believe that all three people involved are on equal footing and that this is more than just a sexual connection. In the case of Lucky, Heart, and Mason, it took a bit of convincing and quite a few chapters, but by the end, I was invested in their relationship. One of my favorite things about their story was the fact that Heart's relationships with Lucky and Mason, Lucky's with Heart and Mason, and Mason's with Lucky and Heart prior to all of them getting together were so distinct that it never felt as if I was getting recycled story angles, making their inevitable throuplehood more interesting. I'm giving four stars to Heart. ♥
