Review: Tap That by Jennifer Blackwood & RC Boldt

Note: This ARC was provided by the authors via Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

I've been fortunate enough to have read all of Jennifer Blackwood's AND RC Boldt's previous releases, so when I found out that the two authors had decided to get together and write a romantic comedy, I was excited to experience the fruits of their labor. Indeed, Tap That proved to be the kind of enemies-to-lovers story that I could sink my proverbial teeth into. We meet Reid Morgan just as he's about to get his performance evolution as the lead bartender for On Tap. He's been consistent over the years, but lately, he's been working hard to prove how worthy he was to be chosen the bar manager. But he was in for the shock of his life when instead of receiving the promotion, he's introduced to Callie Anderson--the new manager of On Tap. Reid is pissed and he makes no secret of his utter dislike for Callie. On the other hand, Callie has no clue why the hot bartender doesn't seem to want to have anything to do with her. But she can't be bothered to wonder about Reid, not when she needs to get her act together and prove that she's perfect for the brewery. But first, Callie needs to learn a thing or two about...beer!

This was a hilariously fun read! Admittedly, I wasn't a fan of Callie's in the beginning. It took a few chapters for me to warm up to her, but when she proved herself worthy of my (and Reid's) affections, it was pretty much smooth sailing. Callie and Reid reminded me of the old-school kind of banter that can be found in classic movies from the 40s, 50s, and 60s. It wasn't cutesy or contrived. If anything, these two were witty and could whip out a quip or two to keep the other one on their toes. And then there was the romance, which, thank goodness, wasn't any sort of insta-whatever. Yes, there was attraction, but that was constantly overridden in the beginning by the mutual dislike wafting through the air whenever they were breathing the same air. I loved that the more caring and then romantic feelings developed over time, and that these two had to seriously earn each other's trust and respect through actions and not just words. I really hope this isn't the first and last time that Jennifer Blackwood and RC Boldt intend to write something together. The fact is, these two make one formidable team. Five stars for Tap That. ♥
