Review: Claiming What Is Mine by Abby Brooks & Will Wright (Wilde Boys #2)

Note: This ARC was provided by the authors via Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

Claiming What Is Mine is the second and newest release in the Abby Brooks and Will Wright-penned Wilde Boys series, and this time around, we've got ourselves a second chance romance! Gabriel Wilde and Meredith Still were young and in love and had made plans for the rest of our lives together. That is, until their dreams didn't matter as much as Gabe's, and slowly but surely, there was little left of all their best laid plans. They went their separate ways and it takes eighteen years before they happen to see each other again at a family wedding. That ease between them once upon a time is still very much there, and after that night, Gabe realizes that Meredith has always been "the one". He wants nothing more than to set things right and for them to be together again. However, Meredith isn't completely sure if she's prepared to offer up her heart once again to the very same person who broke it nearly two decades prior. Gabe know he's going to have to work hard to prove to Meredith that he's no longer the immature kid he was in high school and that the only person she belongs with is him.

I'll be honest, I was worried about the story in the first few chapters because I thought that Gabe and Meredith were jumping back into a relationship way too quickly for two people who hadn't seen each other in eighteen years and without having thoroughly discussed their issues from the past. Luckily, there was a heck of a lot more that happened before they got to their expected and belated happily-ever-after. It would be easy to dislike Gabe for what he did to Meredith when they were teenagers, but the guy deserves kudos for how dedicated he was in proving to Meredith that he was a changed man. Well, more of that he wasn't the same boy that had been self-centered and deaf to her own needs. One of my favorite things about this book was that even though the connection between Gabe and Meredith was never in question, they still had obstacles in front of them that they needed to hurdle. Theirs was a happy ending that may have been a long time coming but sometimes you have to truly fight and work hard for something really worth having. I'm giving Claiming What Is Mine 4.5 stars. ♥
