Review: "Tryst" by Alex Rosa

Note: This ARC was provided by RockStar Lit PR in exchange for an honest review.

After leaving her abusive ex-boyfriend and getting a restraining order against him, Skyler moves in with her older brother Josh. She simply wants to get on with the rest of her life and focus on school and work. However, when she finally meets her brother's best friend and roommate, it appears like she's about to be quite distracted. After all, it'll be difficult to avoid the often half-naked model/actor who happens to share the very same living quarters.

Blake knows he can easily get any woman he wants and he makes no secret that he goes to bed with a lot of them. When he comes face to face with his best friend's younger sister, who just happens to now be their new roommate, he can see that she's as attracted to him as he is to her. But Josh gave him one rule: to stay away from Skye, and it appears that Josh warned Skye to stay away from Blake as well, no thanks to his reputation as a manwhore.

Blake and Skye try to adhere to the rule Josh set, but when Skye's ex shows up at their apartment, things begin to change between the roommates. They agree to embark on a no-strings, non-committal tryst, but it becomes obvious really quickly that Skye's developing feelings for Blake. With an overprotective brother hovering and an abusive ex lurking, Skye needs to decide what she wants from Blake--a tryst or a committed relationship?

Tryst is a new adult (NA) novel that's a bit of enemies to lovers mixed in with falling for your sibling's best friend. To be honest, I'm a bit on the fence with this book. The blurb made me want to read and review it and I was excited when I received the ARC.  There's a lot of sexual tension between the lead characters, Skye and Blake, and the back and forth was entertaining, though they were bordering on immaturity quite a number of times in the story.

Even with Blake's manwhore reputation and his sometimes childish behavior, I must admit that he was the brightest spot in the entire book. He was more than just the guy who liked to date and go to bed with whoever was his flavor of the day and when called for, he acted his age and with a sense of responsibility, especially when it came to taking care of Skye whenever her ex was around. The further I got into the book, the better he was becoming.

There were a couple of issues that were left hanging:
1. The ex-boyfriend - There was a restraining order against him but he was still very much around and Skye never reported it to the authorities. She didn't even inform Josh about the guy's presence.
2. Rich and Heather - I wondered why Blake didn't like Rich even before he and Skye got together and that was never explained in the book. I thought something more was going on but I guess I was wrong.
3. Ashley - It was like she was there and Skye said something that hinted at her friend being not as sincere as she seemed only to have her disappear after that one appearance.

Overall, Tryst was a pretty good read, and based on early reviews on Goodreads, one that a lot of readers have already shown affection for. With some tweaking in terms of content, which could have shortened the length of the book as a whole, I think it would have been even better. If you're looking for an NA novel that's got some angst, some humor, and lot of banter, check out this new release from Alex Rosa. I'm giving Tryst three stars out of five. ♥
