Review: The Downside of Love by Meghan Quinn (Blue Line #2)

Well now... I'm trying to come up with the words to properly explain how this book made me feel and why I ended up giving this the rating that I did. I had to take a few days to see if my feelings would change, and unfortunately, they didn't. You see, I loved The Upside of Falling, which was the first book in Meghan Quinn's Blue Line series, and even though the ending was an evil cliffhanger, I knew it was coming because it was, after all, a duet with a continuing story line. So, when the second book was slated to be released four days earlier than originally announced, I was thrilled. I wanted answers and I wanted resolutions, and who wouldn't want those sooner than expected, right? The thing is, I had no clue that there was going to be a downside to reading The Downside of Love.

I can't go into much detail about this second book because of potential spoilers. The only thing that I'm willing to mention is that it still involves the three characters featured prominently in the first book and who clearly have much more to tell readers based on the ending of the series starer: Colby Brooks, Rory Oaks, and Stryder Sheppard. Quinn took this second novel in a direction I didn't expect, and maybe it would have worked out if not for the fact that I simply disliked Rory. I'm sorry, but she didn't deserve either Colby nor Stryder, and while these two guys were far from perfect, they were far, far better than the girl who was supposed to inspire extraordinarily strong emotions from both of them. Quinn's writing is great, as always, but because I had such a lack of affection for this "heroine", my overall reading experience waned. It totally pains me to give The Downside of Love 3.5 stars. ♥
