Review: My Sweetest Sasha by Eva Charles (Meadows Shore #2)

Note: This ARC was provided by RockStar Lit PR in exchange for an honest review.

My Sweetest Sasha is the second book in Meadows Shore series from Eva Charles, which features eleven cousins, six men who are Harringtons and five women who are Claytons, and all of whom happen to maintain close relationships with one another. Book two is about the eldest Harrington brother, Dr. Cole Harrington, a gifted trauma surgeon who is every bit as confident as a man with his knowledge and experience can be. He puts his patients and members of his medical staff first, but this can also get him into trouble with those is management. His latest run-in involves the thermostat in one of the operating rooms, which he ends up smashing into smithereens but also has his boss informing him that Cole will have to deal with what's known as an executive coach from the hospital's Risk Management department. The person assigned to him is Minnesota native Alexa Petersen, and you would think that shadowing someone as gorgeous as Cole would have its perks, but Cole doesn't hesitate to put her in her place when he feels she's overstepping her bounds. Alexa is as curious about Cole's personal life as much as his professional one, because when those two intersect, reporting it could have Alexa costing Cole his career.

This second in a series was a step above its predecessor, giving readers more meaningful interactions between the two main characters, Cole and Alexa. The story itself was also a bit more intriguing, what with Cole's career on the line and Alexa being his judge and jury. There was a connection between the two of them, but it wasn't as palpable as I would have hoped for it to be. For a good portion of the book, they have conversations and exchanges, but it never felt like there was this all-consuming need for them to be in each other's company or to truly want to learn more about the person beneath the professional titles and veneer. It was as if there were these sudden shifts in the direction their non-relationship was going, and I would have wished for a progression that I both felt and observed instead of how it played out here. Cole and Alexa do, however, share interesting back stories, and one of the best things about this ongoing series is the fact that it highlights, so far, how much these characters love their families and histories. I did wonder, though, about the title, especially since the nickname "Sasha" wasn't all that prominent in the story, but hey, that's a very minor thing on my end. My Sweetest Sasha was an all-around four-star read. ♥
