Review: Hating the Player by Rebecca Jenshak (Campus Wallflowers #2)

Ooh, we've got ourselves an enemies-to-lovers, second-chance romance with book number two in Rebecca Jenshak's Campus Wallflowers series! If you've read the series starter, Tutoring the Player, you'll recall that there wasn't a whole lot of love lost between two supporting characters, Violet Johnson and Gavin Leonard, both students attending Valley University. She's a fashion design student who hates jocks and he's a sports journalism student who plays for Valley U's basketball team. There was a time, however, when Violet didn't hate jocks. One jock in particular she most certainly liked a whole lot--Gavin. Then he does the unthinkable, breaking her heart in the process. Now, they may be neighbors, yet there's nothing neighborly about how Violet has felt for Gavin since he did what he did. But Gavin wants nothing more than a chance to love his neighbor again.
A well-earned shot at making things work is a must when it comes to second-chance romances, and that's exactly what readers get with Campus Wallflowers second novel. It was easy to understand why Violet was as hurt as she was with everything that happened with Gavin. I was prepared to not like the guy, but as is often the case, there was a whole lot more to him than that one incident that led to the abrupt end of his promising romance with Violet. I appreciated the clarification as to what actually went down between Gavin and the roommate-who-shall-not-be-named, and that Violet did not feel the need to lower herself to the level of said former roommate when their paths crossed. This was a sweet story, and I so love the friendships that Violet has and the camaraderie that Gavin has with his friends and teammates. I'm giving five stars to Hating the Player.
