Review: Blind Pass by Teagan Hunter (Caronlina Comets #2)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Valentine PR.

Marriage-of-convenience romances, like fake-relationship romances, are hit or miss with me, and that mainly has to do with the fact that they tend to play out the same way book after book, often regardless of the author. So, I look for that extra something that makes both the story and the main characters stand out, and Teagan Hunter brought it in the second novel in her Carolina Comets series. Blind Pass has a grumpy/sunshine feel to it, with Adrian Rhodes, a defenseman with the Comets aka The Beast, and Ryan Bell, a beauty influencer, as its main characters. These two were supporting characters in the series starter, Puck Shy, Rhodes and Ryan being best friends with Collin Wright and Harper Kelly, respectively. Rhodes and Ryan, however, well, it often feels like they're tolerating each other's presence, especially while on a trip to Vegas with their besties. So imagine their surprise when they wake up in the same hotel room...and married. The thing is, they can't get divorced or annulled. This unlikeliest of couples need each other...for one entire year.

This book may have had the obvious Beauty and the Beast vibes, but Teagan Hunter delivered a contemporary story--with hockey feels, of course--that had her trademark wit and romance. I seriously adored Rhodes and Ryan, and I enjoyed getting to know them apart from being Collin's and Harper's best friends. These two were snarky yet sweet and the sexual tension between them was the kind that you just knew would lead to more. They got to know each other, becoming both friends and lovers, which provided a much stronger foundation for their relationship. Naturally, there were a couple of times where their insecurities got in the way, but noting that I would consider major hurdles to their happily-ever-after. Trust me, there's far more to their story than the blurb alludes to, making for a very enjoyable read that brought a smile to my face more than once and left me a happily satisfied romance reader by the time Rhodes and Ryan got their HEA. Blind Pass snags five stars, and Hunter's Carolina Comets series continues to be entertaining!
