Review: From This Day Forward by Lauren Layne (Wedding Belles #0.5)

Note: This ARC was provided by Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books in exchange for an honest review.

From This Day Forward is the prequel to bestselling author Lauren Layne's new The Wedding Belles contemporary romance series. This was a quick read and gives us the second chance love story of two professional photographers, Leah McHale and Jason Rhodes, whose relationship ended a year ago after she went to his apartment and his front door was opened by a mystery woman clad in his shirt. Phone calls and messages from Jason went unanswered until he finally gave up and they've spent most of the past year avoiding one another. When the opportunity to become the official photographers at the wedding of a recent former First Daughter is placed before them, they agree to set aside their differences and work as a team. But a year was clearly not enough for either of them to forget how the other made them feel and realize that there were more good memories than there were bad. If they give in to their feelings and agree to sleep together, will they get the closure they both want or will they see that all they need is each other?

This was short but sweet and definitely sexy. The reason behind Leah and Jason's break-up may seem clear-cut but there's more too it than meets the eye, and we're clued in soon enough, which then leads to me feeling a tad frustrated with Leah for her refusal to listen to Jason's explanation then and now. Of course, I totally understand how it may feel as if his explanation should no longer matter, but the fact is, he still holds a great deal of significance to her, even though she wishes he didn't, so yeah, I wasn't too happy with her. Aside from Leah and Jason's romance redux, we get small glimpses of the other people connected with the Wedding Belles business, although it's safe to say that the focus of this prequel novella was really mostly on the erstwhile lovers and how long they would figure out that they belong together and what they were willing to do to finally right the mistakes that happened a year ago. Lauren Layne delivers a splendid beginning to her new series with From This Day Forward. This prequel gets four stars. ♥
