Review: High Impact by Freya Barker (High Mountain Trackers #4)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Buoni Amici Press.
Freya Barker's High Mountain Trackers romantic suspense series has proven to be an addictive one, and she closes it out on a high note courtesy of High Impact. This is Lucy Lenoir and Beauregard "Bo" Rivera's story, and I've been itching to not only see these two get together but also to finally get their back stories. Forty-four-year-old Bo has tried to keep his distance from Lucy, due in large part to hard lessons learned when he was much younger. When he finally clues in one surprising fact about the thirty-seven-year-old manager of Hart's Horse Rescue, Bo decides that he's wasted too much time already and is raring to go all in. But Lucy is wary and cautious for a reason, and when it seems like she's become the target of someone out for vengeance, she's hesitant to ask for help, especially since she's taught herself to rely on no one else. However, Bo wants to show her that he isn't going anywhere and he'll be by her side as she faces down her dark past.
I'm feeling all bittersweet with this fourth and final book in the High Mountain Trackers--unless there's a book in the works for Dan, but I'm guessing that's wishful thinking on my part. I've loved getting to know these High Mountain Trackers and the women who gave them a run for their money. Lucy and Bo were a match made in High Mountain heaven. My heart broke for Lucy when everything she went through prior to meeting Alex came to light. She truly was a survivor, yet having Bo--as well as Alex, Pippa, Nella, and the rest of the crew over at the High Meadow Ranch--reminded her that she wasn't alone and that she didn't have to carry all her burdens on her shoulders, sturdy as they may be. Freya Barker once again gives her main characters depth whilst still allowing them a fair amount of growth. She also manages to strike a fine balance between the romance and the suspense, giving readers an intriguing mystery alongside a love story with heart and heat. High Impact certainly left quite an impression, which is why it easily gets five stars.
