Review: Darkest Power by Rachel Van Dyken (The Dark Ones Saga #6)

Let's be honest: We all play favorites. Whether it be our siblings or friends or something as mundane as chocolate or clothing, it's something we all do and have. When it comes to Rachel Van Dyken's books, I confess that I do, indeed, have a favorite among everything of hers that I've already read, and that is none other than The Dark Ones Saga. Every single new release from this series has me craving to sink my teeth into it, then leave me begging for more. Darkest Power is the sixth novel--but seventh book overall--in this paranormal romance saga, and this go-around, Van Dyken gives readers the story of Horus, the god of sky and war, and Kit, the human who isn't all that she appears to be. Trying to figure out how to live in a world he isn't familiar with is difficult enough, but uncovering the truth about Kit and everything she means to him comes with a whole new set of complications--and consequences--and saving her may mean ultimately losing her.

Does it sound masochistic when I say that I get a kick out of seeing each of these powerful beings struggle to find their footing in the world of mortals? Add to that learning to get a handle on their feelings when they fall in love. And no matter how mighty a being Horus was, even he wasn't infallible, particularly when it came to Kit. Talk about doing anything and everything that was necessary for her. Gah! Of course, aside from the romance, Rachel Van Dyken delivers the suspense as she keeps readers on the edge of their seats as Horus and Kit--and their motley crew of defenders, protectors, and supporters--fell for each other and fought for their forever. Now, while you could venture into this new book without having read any of the one released prior to this, allow me to highly recommend you read the books in the series in order because they truly are quite awesome, if I do say so myself. Five stars for Darkest Power and I'm eager for more from the Dark Ones Saga!

Review: The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan (Roommates #1)

I do believe I've found myself a new book boyfriend to drool, erm, swoon over in Cannon Roth, male main character in bestselling author Kendall Ryan's Roommates series starter, The Room Mate . This had a familiar romance trope--falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling--and yet I didn't find it boring or tiresome in any way. This has both heart and heat as well as lighthearted humor along with a bit of heart-tugging angst and it's headlined by a couple of main characters that I was totally smitten with from the moment Paige got a pretty good idea of just how much her best friend's younger brother Cannon had grown up from the nerdy boy who followed them around like a puppy when they were kids.
