Review: Worth It All by Claudia Connor (McKinney Brothers #3)

Note: This ARC was provided by Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept in exchange for an honest review.

Worth It All is the third and final novel in the bestselling McKinney Brothers series by author Claudia Connor and features the youngest McKinney sibling, Jacob "JT" McKinney. JT had a football scholarship and dreams of playing professional football, but all of that was thrown to the wayside when he and his girlfriend got into a car accident--one that ended up costing him part of his leg, too many injuries, and a great deal of guilt that led to him keeping his distance from his family for years. He then meets single mother Paige Roberts, and what starts off as crush of sorts on a waitress at a local diner begins to become something he never expected, with him becoming so invested in both Paige and her young daughter Casey. But Paige has a plan for her life and she may not be willing to change it for as gorgeous a distraction as JT.

JT was the baby of his family, with his six older siblings having gone off to school or starting their careers while he was still growing up. His accident left him believing he was a disappointment compared to the rest of them and being more trouble than he was worth, with everyone hovering over him and adjusting their lives to cater to his needs. His decision to move to the West Coast has led to him spending too much time away from a family that he loves and misses and that loves and misses him, but he's also carved out a life for himself, becoming a biomedical engineer with patents that have made him more money than he knows what to do with and have allowed him to create Evolution R&D with two of his closest friends in California. His designs boast of continuing advancements that benefit prosthetic-using amputees like him.

When he realizes that the waitress he's been crushing on has a daughter who is also an amputee, it becomes an opening that leads him to get to know Paige and Casey. Paige is focused on Casey and trying to create the kind of life for her daughter that she never had. Working two jobs while taking a couple of classes in college are all part of her game plan. The one thing that wasn't part of all her planning was falling for someone like JT. She doesn't believe in fairy tales nor does she see herself as a damsel in distress waiting for her prince to swoop in and rescue her. She's independent and self-sufficient, but JT wants to take care of both her and Casey. Will Paige be able to open herself to the possibility of something more with JT. In turn, can he let go of his guilt and hang-ups and see that a life with his girls is worth everything?

This series ender felt like a combination of certain elements from the first two books, what with Paige being a single mom and JT dealing with issues that have left him estranged from his family. Yet, even with those similar themes, this book was able to stand on its own, giving readers a solid story about no matter how planned out your life may be, when fate and circumstances intervene, you can choose to either be stubborn and stick to the map you have in your hands or decide to take a different route and proceed to a far better destination. There was a bit of confusion regarding the timeline, but then this was an advanced reader copy, so I'm hoping that all of that was worked out prior to the book's release. No tears were shed this time around, but I still loved JT and Paige's romance and gladly give Worth It All five out of five stars. ♥
