Review: Mr. and Mrs. by Alexa Riley (Alexa Riley Promises #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by Ardent PRose in exchange for an honest review.

Mr. and Mrs. is the first novella in bestselling author Alexa Riley's new Alexa Riley Promises series, which focuses on more old-fashioned tropes but still packed with all that Alexa Riley goodness fans have come to expect. I've already read a few of the author's past works, but I must admit that this latest release is my favorite. Yes, there's still very much an alpha male and a sweet female, but this one just felt different, and maybe it's because they were already married to begin with, but it also had a lot to do with the way their love story played out. And again, Alexa Riley has packed a complete story with well-developed characters in a limited number of pages, so I never felt as if something was being sacrificed for the sake of the length.

Molly and Phillip have been married for a year, and while their relationship started full of love, respect, and compatibility even with the ten-year age difference, Molly can't help but feel as if things are faltering for them at the moment. It's almost as if Phillip is showing more passion for his work than he is for their marriage. But Phillip loves and adores his wife and wants nothing more than to give her everything she deserves. That's why he's been holding back, trying to rein in his incessant desire for her, not wanting to scare her off. There's no one he'd rather spend the rest of his life and Molly feels the same. However, one visit to his office shocks Molly, leaving her to wonder if all her suspicions about Phillip were true all along.

I loved Molly and Phillip's story. Molly is only twenty-one, and they were only three months into their relationship when they got married, so there's a great deal of naivete that's still there. She's dealing with unfounded thoughts and insecurities in her head and she's hesitant to talk to her husband about it. Yes, she's a tad too reactive and quick to believe the worst, but I liked that she evolved as the story went on. Then there's Phillip who has two sides to him: the sweet, caring husband and the man who would love to do every single filthy fantasy he has with his wife. The story is a mix of sweet and steamy and I loved every bit of it. Mr. and Mrs. is, without a doubt, my favorite Alexa Riley book and I can't wait for more. 4.5 stars! ♥
