Review: Debauched by Jennifer Dawson (Undone #3)

What did last night make me? I'm a prude--that's what I have always been and assumed I would always be--but last night. I don't know, I can't deny all these weeks with Chad has given me hope as he made burn. I'd started to suspect that if anyone could make me come it was him, but in my head I 'd picture it more like relaxing. Like I'd loosen up a bit. I hadn't expected to become completely undone. It was like a switch had flipped in my head and not only had I been desperate what he'd done to me, I'd wanted so much more. Dirty, forbidden shocking thoughts I can't even think in the light of day.

Debauched is the third full-length novel in the Undone erotic romance series from author Jennifer Dawson and picks up about two months after the events in Unraveled, the Valentine-themed novella that was released in January. Ruby Stiles and Chad Fellows shared an emotionally intense moment, one that neither of them has forgotten but have tried not to acknowledge. Chad may seem like the clean-cut, all-American guy that any girl would happily take home to her parents, but his revelation regarding his being a Dominant floored Ruby. She may be curious about the BDSM lifestyle, especially considering the fact that her best friend is heavily into it, but she doesn't see herself partaking in it anytime soon. She keeps her distance from Chad, but he's ready to show Ruby what she's been missing and what exactly she needs.

I've enjoyed the Undone series from the get-go and look forward to every new installment that Jennifer Dawson has given readers along the way. However, Debauched has gone above and beyond whatever lofty expectations I had. This was a quietly intense story about love, trust, and acceptance and with main characters like Chad Fellows and Ruby Stiles, becoming emotionally invested in the outcome of their romance was inevitable. The book was a journey of self-discovery for Ruby, and I loved how Chad wasn't some cocky Dom who barked orders and forced Ruby out of her comfort zone. He nudged and pushed her boundaries but his priority was always staying focused on what was best for Ruby, knowing what it was that she needed. He helped her recognize that one's submissiveness didn't equate to any sort of weakness.

Books that have BDSM as part of the story are a dime a dozen, and there are those that have become bestsellers in the process, with readers giving an author a pass when it comes to the writing for as long as the story is enticing enough. What Jennifer Dawson has done with this series is merge notably good writing with a divinely decadent story line. Her storytelling skills do not disappoint, luring readers in with a tale that is about love and sex and all the complexities in between. Like I mentioned earlier, the Undone series is a favorite and one that has never disappointed me. This latest release bumped everything up a few notches, so you can imagine what my expectations are for the next book, which I hope will be Brandon Townsend III's story. I'm highly recommending the Undone series and I award Debauched five-plus stars. ♥
