Review: Broken Resolutions by Olivia Dade (Luscious Librarians #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by Kensington Books in exchange for an honest review.

With the new year rolling in, librarian Penelope Callahan makes a resolution: absolutely no men for a year. Finding Mr. Right doesn't seem to be in the cards anyway and she's tired of the whole dating game. She just wants to welcome the new year in her pajamas and tucked away on her coach munching on comfort food. When her fellow librarian asks her to take over as the host for the library's singles' event, Penny is hesitant but finally agrees. What she doesn't know is that she's a participant as well, needing to have an even number of people in order to form couples. She doesn't expect to find anyone interesting at the event, but then she spots a gorgeous guy whose brooding makes it clear that he's as unenthusiastic at being there as she is. But as the evening progresses, the man named Jack Williamson shows his interest in her. He's tempting Penny to break her New Year's resolution even before the new year starts, and she takes the risk, thinking Jack is nothing like the men who have lied to her before..until she learns his secret.

Broken Resolutions is the first novella in the Luscious Librarians series from author Olivia Dade and is the story of Penny Callahan, a librarian who resolves to not have anything to do with men for the next twelve months, and Jack Williamson, a single father who likes his anonymity, not divulging he's actually John Williamson, bestselling author. I enjoyed this romance and felt that it was refreshingly cute and easy-going, especially when it came to Jack's mother Brenda, who's been a widow for a decade and is ready to get back on the proverbial horse and find someone to spend her time with. I am on the fence, though, when it comes to Penny and Jack developing feelings as quickly as they did because the only time they were really together prior to Penny learning who Jack really is were the hours they spent in the library. They didn't know each other all that well and to invest that much emotion in someone just didn't feel all that realistic. Other than that though, Broken Resolutions was a pretty good and quick, 3.5-starred read. ♥
