Review: Teased by Rebecca Zanetti (Dark Protectors - Reese Family #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by the publisher via InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review.

Chalton Reese was an assassin for the Realm and his reputation preceded him. He left that all behind a century ago and focused his attention on protecting the Realm and going after their enemies through technology. Then the king takes him away from his computers and sends him on a mission to stop a journalist from publishing articles that could expose the Realm and nearly immortal creatures like them and to find who her source is, and Olivia Roberts proves to be a target who refuses to bow down to anyone. Her personal reasons for pursuing her story and her commitment to keep her source confidential has Olivia refusing to divulge anything to the predatory man refusing to let her go. But with more people after her, Chalton and Olivia need to trust each other if they hope to live long enough to fight another day.

Teased is a novella in the Dark Protectors paranormal romance series by bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti. It's the fourth novella in the series, but the first of three released under 1001 Dark Nights, and is the eleventh overall installment. Now, those familiar with reviews know I'm someone who reads a series in order because it gives me a more complete experience, especially if books are tied together in one way or another. In the case of the Dark Protector series, I started reading on December 16 and I may have over-estimated being able to finish the first ten books before Teased. I had to stop in the middle of Shadowed (book six) in order to read Teased and get this review, which is part of a blog tour, out in time. I've still got one and half full-length novel and a remaining novella to get through but the series has become a favorite.

This was a fast-paced story that had a good amount of action and thrills, courtesy of retired Realm assassin turned computer whiz Chalton Reese, but journalist Olivia Roberts is no one to be messed with, putting up a fight to protect her story and source. Things get more intriguing when Chalton's brothers show up, which then adds on to the element of intrigue that was already introduced with trying to figure out who Olivia's well-informed source is. The story certainly surprised me a couple of times, especially when Olivia's source and the individual's motives were revealed. I'm glad Chalton got his own shot at happiness and how everything felt like a full circle moment when it came to his family. I've enjoyed how the novellas give fans of the series well-rounded stories for memorable characters. Teased gets four stars. ♥
