Shane moved away from his hometown of Casper, Wyoming in order to live his life freely as a gay man in Denver, Colorado. He's grateful to his aunt and uncle for supporting him and even helping him out career-wise. It's while he's working at his aunt's veterinary clinic that he meets Alex and his furball full of energy, Stormy. Though hesitant at first because he's new to being out in the open, Shane quickly finds himself enjoying his time with Alex, and soon, they're both in love with one another and Shane has never been as happy as he is with his boyfriend. But that happiness is short-lived when he gets devastating news and a secret that he's been keeping from Alex could mean an abrupt end to Shane's dream of happily-ever-after.

When It's Right is the first book in the Mile High Romance M/M contemporary romance series from bestselling author Aria Grace. It took me less than an hour to read this love story between twenty-five-year-old would-be Shane and Alex, who's about thirty. Shane has just recently come out of the proverbial closet and is still adjusting to living life openly as a gay individual. It's not as if he's never been with another guy, but he's never really experienced being in a relationship before, and while there's the initial musing as to whether the other is gay, Shane and Alex's time together is pretty stress-free until one phone call changes everything. Shane's got a big secret, one that he has yet to share with the man he's fallen for.

The dilemma that Shane was forced to face was a difficult one, and it left him believing that he had to make a choice between sticking it out and re-living the life he once left behind in Wyoming or continuing to pursue the life he was making for himself with Alex by his side. While I could appreciate how hard it was for Shane to make a decision, he waffled a time or two--not just about whether he was ready to take on the heavy responsibility put upon him but also his avoidance of communicating with Alex and being upfront about what exactly was going on. Still, this series starter was a pretty enjoyable read and the addition of Stormy the dog and the twist that happens kept things fairly interesting. Four stars for When It's Right. ♥
