Review: Dirty Deeds by Megan Erickson (Mechanics of Love #3)

Note: This ARC was provided by HarperCollins in exchange for an honest review.

After finally leaving behind her verbally and emotionally abusive boyfriend in order to start life anew with her sister and niece in Tory, Maryland, Alex Dawn is finding her place. Aside from her sister and niece, she has people she can trust and who have taken her in as family. She enjoys her work as a mechanic and has a home of her own. She's sworn off any sort of committed relationships with men, her past relationship being more than enough to remind her that most members of the opposite sex are nothing but disappointments. She hasn't been tempted to break her abstinence...until a red Mercedes Benz shows up at Payton and Sons and she comes face to face with L.M. Spencer, the Brit whose accent makes her wish he would whisper dirty things in her ear and use that scrumptious body of his to translate words into action.

When Leslie Michael Spencer said goodbye to his hometown of Manchester, England to go to college in New York, he worked hard to distance himself from everything he left behind. Years later, he's in the running for a promotion at Royalty Suites, and scouting for the perfect location for the latest hotel the company will build is all that stands in his way. What he finds, however, in Tory, Maryland is more than a piece of land ideal for a hotel. He finds a gorgeous spitfire in the person of Alex Dawn and they share one night together. With plans underway for the new hotel, Spencer returns to Tory and spending as much time as he can with Alex is his top priority. What they share feels more than a temporary fling, but when Alex's livelihood and adopted family are threatened by his employer, there may be no hope of any future.

Dirty Deeds is the anticipated third novel and latest release in author Megan Erickson's Mechanics of Love contemporary romance series. Alex Dawn was a new hire for Payton and Sons in the last chapter of the first book, Dirty Thoughts, and fans of the series got to know more about her life story and her secret past in the second story, Dirty Talk. If anyone deserved to have a fresh shot at a happily-ever-after, it was Alex, and she gets it with British expat L.M. Spencer. On the surface, they may seem like opposites, what with Alex being a grease monkey who loves working on cars and Spencer a location scout for a hotel chain who seems at home in a business suit. But once Spencer divulges his past, it becomes clear quickly that they had far more in common than they once thought, and just maybe, they made more sense together than apart.

Alex and Spencer may have had that much needed chemistry that made them click as a couple, but these two had to work through past and present issues before they could even make their way to a possible happy ending. I loved the easygoing moments they shared, but I also appreciated the tests and challenges that they had to overcome because that's when you see just how far they were willing to go to make their relationship work. Having familiar supporting characters around was an added bonus because not only do we get to see where those couples are in their respective relationships, but they're not there for decorative purposes, playing vital roles in Alex and Spencer's story. There are a few more characters who I'm curious about, so I'm hoping we haven't seen the last of the Mechanics of Love series. Five stars for Dirty Deeds! ♥
