Review: Love Walks In by Samantha Chase (Shaughnessy Brothers #2)

Note: This ARC was provided by Sourcebooks Casablanca in exchange for an honest review.

Love Walks In is the second novel in the Shaughnessy Brothers series from bestselling author Samantha Chase and turns the spotlight on the second eldest brother, Hugh, who owns and runs a dozen luxury boutique resorts that cater to couples. He’s achieved a great deal of success and he believes he owes that to the fact that he’s a very organized planner who likes to prepare for anything and everything. However, when the head of his events department ups and quits, Hugh needs to come up with a last minute presentation in order to cement an important deal with a winery owner. What Hugh doesn’t need is a distracting hot pink suitcase on the lawn and a runaway bride trying to climb through his office window.

But Aubrey Burke may be exactly what the doctor—or in this case, the winery owner—ordered. She has creative ideas that catch the winery owner’s fancy and he insists that she be the one to head the project or else the deal is a no-go. Hugh is hesitant but he quickly warms to the idea, especially when he sees how capable and hardworking Aubrey actually is. He also can’t help but notice how beautiful she is and how interested he is in getting to know her even better. But Aubrey is finally living her life on her terms and she’s being spontaneous and taking more risks than she ever allowed herself to before. Hugh holds on to his schedules and plans for a reason and he isn’t sure if he’s ever going to be ready to let loose…

The combination of home, hearth, and heart continues on from the series starter, Made for Us, to this sequel. The Shaughnessys are a very close-knit family led by patriarch Ian and the six siblings—Ian, Hugh, Quinn, Riley, Owen, and Darcy—may tease and taunt but it’s always in good fun and they’re there for each other to provide understanding and support. There’s a deep, dark reason why Hugh, who used to be a rebellious sort of teenager, is the way he is today and there’s a scene in the book where he and his father are talking about it and my heart just broke for both men and the loss that they continue to mourn and the guilt that they continue to carry. Cluelessness appears to be a family trait among the brothers too.

I liked Aubrey’s feistiness and need to be her own person. She may not have grown up with the affection afforded most children, but she tries not to dwell on it and instead lives life to the fullest because she knows firsthand what it’s like to consider the possibility that your time will end far sooner than you would have expected. She pushes Hugh to step out of his comfort zone and makes him see that spontaneity isn’t such a bad thing. As always, of course, when things get rough, the Shaughnessys band together to help one of their own not only see the error of their ways but make them see the situation from a different but always balanced perspective. An overall fantastic read, I’m giving Love Walks In 4.5 out of five stars. ♥
