Review: Dirty Sexy Inked by Carly Phillips & Erika Wilde (Dirty Sexy #2)

Note: This ARC was provided by Rock Star Lit PR in exchange for an honest review.

Dirty Sexy Inked is the second book in the Dirty Sexy series from the writing team composed of two bestselling authors, Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde. For this sequel, we have the middle Kincaid brother, tattooist Mason, and Katrina Sands, manager of Mason's tattoo studio, Inked. The two have been best friends since high school, sharing a very close bond, one that Mason has never had with any woman other than Katrina. He knows everything about his Kitty-Kat and can almost always read her like a book, but Mason has no clue that Katrina has been hoping for more from him, wishing that he would see her as more than his best friend. Recently, he's noticed that she seems short with him and would even avoid hanging out like they used to. One more snub from Katrina has Mason taking drastic measures. He wants answers but they may end getting more than they bargained for.

Goodness but I'm loving this trilogy so far. The first book set the stage perfectly and now the momentum continues to be at a high with this second in a series. Mason has always been able to get any woman he wants and while he's noticed how gorgeous his best friend is on numerous occasions, he has no intention of crossing that line, fearful of losing her friendship. However, it seems that he may be in danger of just that when Katrina starts to lose her patience with him, due in large part to the fact that she's frustrated over the two of them being in the best friend zone. Of course, Mason has no clue Katrina feels anything more than friendship for him and vice-versa, and then when they do end up sleeping together, it's supposed to be a one-time thing, even though both want more. These two may have been best friends, but they really needed to do a better job at communicating.

One of the things I like best about the friends-to-lovers trope is the journey the main characters go on as their relationship shifts and evolves. They lose certain aspects and gain others, and seeing how they balance still being friends with the added aspect of being far more intimate partners. There's that struggle and it was clear that Mason and Katrina were already struggling before they even ended up in bed together. Even though they knew almost everything about each other, there was one particular dark secret that she kept from him and the revelation of that secret took me a bit by surprise, but I did like how it played out. It was also nice to see how Clay Kincaid and Samantha Jamieson were faring as an engaged couple, and now that Mason and Katrina's story is out, I'm anxious to read Levi's, but I'm sure it'll be worth waiting for. Dirty Sexy Inked receives five stars. ♥
