Review: "Dare to Surrender" by Carly Phillips (Dare to Love #3)

Gabriel Dare has wanted Isabelle Masters from the minute he sees her at the country club he belongs to. But he isn't the type of man to go after a woman who's in a relationship with someone else so he contents himself with watching her and engaging in conversations whenever they bump into each other. Then he finds her handcuffed to his brother's desk, arrested for a charge her now ex-boyfriend has falsely accused her of. Now, there's nothing in the way of laying his claim on the only woman he refuses to live without.

Isabelle Masters has always been mesmerized by Gabriel Dare's presence but when he offers her a place to live, she realizes there's kindness behind his dominating personality. He's the only person to call her Izzy or Iz and she can see that he truly wants to take care of her, but she also wants to be able to prove to herself that she doesn't have to rely on anyone else, that she can be independent. Is Izzy going to risk what looks like her true chance at happily ever after with Gabe because she isn't willing to surrender to him?

Dare to Surrender is the third book in the Carly Phillips-penned Dare to Love series and was originally released as part of the multi-authored Invitation to Eden series of books. This is also a spin-off of sorts, since it's veering away from the original Dare siblings to now include their cousins Gabe, Deck, and Lucy. The author has stated that the books focusing on the cousins are hotter so if you're familiar with the first two books, you can imagine what's in store for you when you get to Gabe's and his siblings' love stories.

Both Gabe and Izzy were damaged characters who seemed to come together at the right time and while it may have seemed rushed in the beginning, these two did pace themselves in the latter part of the book. There's also a different kind of intensity to Gabe compared to his cousins, and it could be due to his being a widower and the circumstances leading up to his losing his wife. The use of Eden as a setting gave this a different feel compared to the usual cityscape of the first two books. Dare to Surrender gets 4.5 stars! ♥
