Review: "Dare to Touch" by Carly Phillips (Dare to Love #5)

Olivia Dare and Dylan Rhodes work well together but there's a mutual attraction between the two of them that's been simmering ever since they first laid eyes on each other. Olivia's hesitant to get involved with Dylan but he knows what they're feeling is something special and decides that pursuing Olivia and trying to get her to change her mind will be worth it in the end. But Dylan's needy ex-girlfriend and her own secret about her past may put a damper on a sizzling love affair that may actually have a chance of lasting.

I've been waiting for Olivia and Dylan's story ever since both characters were introduced in the first book, Dare to Love, because you could feel that there was definitely something going on between the two. Here in Dare to Touch, the fifth novel in the series by Carly Phillips, the author returns to the original Dare siblings and marks the first time we have a female member of the family as the lead character. Olivia's the one fans of the series are most familiar with so it's only apt that she be the first female to get a story.

Based on the glimpses I've had of Olivia in the previous books, she's always come off as a self-assured businesswoman, someone comfortable in the world of football and not willing to back down from any challenge. She also appears to be close to her original batch of siblings and to some from the second family. So, I was rather surprised that she had a painful secret she was keeping from Dylan and that she had made her mind up about something because of it, leading her to keep her distance from Dylan.

I liked Olivia and Dylan together, though I did think Dylan was a tad too close to his ex-girlfriend Meg Thompson. His being readily available every time she needed him made her overly reliant on him and I felt he was enabling her neediness. But stories need conflict and Meg was just one of the hurdles that Olivia and Dylan needed to overcome if they wanted to have an actual relationship based on love and trust. Dare to Touch was a fab addition to the Dare to Love series and I'm giving it four stars out of five. ♥
