Review: "His Forbidden Princess" by Jeannie Moon (Royal Holiday #4)

Note: This ARC was provided by Tule Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Eight years ago in England, Sofie and Ian were in love and each other's best friend while studying in Cambridge University. After their first night in bed together, their happy bubble is burst upon the arrival of Sofie's mother, who just happens the be the queen of Aubonne, making Sofie a princess. Ian is shocked when Sofie confesses to him the truth and Queen Louisa stresses upon him that he and her daughter cannot continue with their relationship because of their different stations in life. In order for Sofie to live the life she was meant to lead, Ian ends their relationship, breaking both their young hearts in the process.

The presence of Crown Princess Sofia of Aubonne in New York has her under the watchful eye of a team of FBI agents led by Special Agent Ian Stuart but the first time she lays her eyes on him after eight years apart is when she's informed of an attempt on the lives of her parents and sister. Ian then takes custody of her and takes her to his family's vacation home, hoping the secluded area will give her the protection she needs. The more time they spend together, the more the love they once shared comes roaring back to life...but then, if they're completely honest with one another, it never really burned out in the first place.

Ian knows that in order to properly protect Sofie, he'll need to keep a professional distance because his feelings for her could be the one distraction that could put her in harm's way. Sofie, on the other hand, wants to right her wrongs and fight for Ian the way she should have eight years prior. She's willing to set aside everyone and everything else for him and their relationship. With people coming after the royal family and wanting to do to them what was done to the Crown Prince the year before, Ian and Sofie will have to survive bloodthirsty so-called patriots if they want a chance at their very own fairy tale come true.

His Forbidden Princess by Jeannie Moon is the fourth and final book in the multi-authored Royal Holiday series and is the singular title to have a royal princess instead of a royal prince. This is a second chance romance with a suspense thriller touch added to it. The story of former lovers meeting again after their relationship abruptly ended eight years before but under trying circumstances was fraught with tension, mainly because of the way things between them ended and that Sofie's life was now at stake while Ian tries to protect her. When a love like theirs survives all those years apart, it must be true love after all.

I did take note of one particular inconsistency that bothered me: the non-mention of one of the people involved in the plot against Sofie's family. The character's name and sudden presence was so out of the blue that, naturally, I never saw their involvement coming. Another inconsistency was Ian being tasked to protect Sofie, which was clarified by Ian's Uncle John and then repeated by Archduke Alessandro, Sofie's father, yet Sofie seemed surprised when her father mentioned it even though John had already mentioned it earlier. Aside from those, His Forbidden Princess was still quite an enjoyable read and gets four stars. ♥
