Review: Throne of Lies & Legacy of Lies by Tara Leigh (Lies #0.5-#1)

Tara Leigh latest releases tell the tale of two people who found love when they were seventeen and nineteen, respectively, only to lose it and everything that they believed was real too soon afterwards. Jolie Chapman and Remington Montgomery III were paired together for a ball composed of debutante daughters from well-known and well-off families and their hand-picked bachelor escorts from clans of equal status. Their fathers were business partners, having created a financial empire many envied and others wish they could emulate. When scandal rocks both families, Jolie and Tripp's relationship just happens to be one of the casualties, and wading through all the lies and deception force them apart. It's a decade later and Jolie is transition her career from that of a successful model to a jewelry designer while Tripp is quietly making a name for himself in the field of fraud prevention, enough so that he feels ten years is more than enough time to return to Manhattan to seek redemption. The last thing he expects is to cross paths with the girl he's never forgotten, but will she provide absolution or damnation?

First things first: Throne of Lies must be read before Legacy of Lies because the former--which is novella in length--basically lays down the history between Tripp and Jolie and between the Chapmans and Montgomerys, and trust me, you're going to want to be there to see how Tripp and Jolie fall in love and then have everything fall apart. I loved these two together because they had all that adoration for each other in the beginning and then there was all that animosity in those ten years they were apart. Secrets abound, and not just on Tripp's and Jolie's end. I can't say what those secrets are (because spoilers are evil), but even when they're pretty much put out there and you as a reader know already, you're still itching to see how it'll be revealed to the other characters and how the revelation will be received. This book had the kind of romance that I crave and enough suspense to more than satisfy me twice over. Tripp and Jolie's love story is about second chances and how to make the most of them, whether it be life in general or love in particular. I highly recommend Throne of Lies and Legacy of Lies. Five stars! ♥
