Review: Push & Pull by Brigham Vaughn (Midwest #2)

Push & Pull is an M/M college romance with a mix of enemies-to-friends-to-lovers and opposites attract to it. Penned by Brigham Vaughn, this is the second in her Midwest series, although the main characters are basically done with college. The story takes place soon after the events in the first book, but these are both standalones, so they can be read independently of each other. Here we’ve got the best friends of Caleb Stockwell and Nathan Rhodes thrown together on a road trip and while Lowell Prescott and Brent Cameron may know each other, they’ve got a whole slew of preconceived notions about one another that will make for a whole lot of awkwardness and hurt feelings. Lowell may have already known that Nathan wouldn’t be making the long-planned summer road trip, but Brent is caught totally unaware. How do two people who don’t seem to have a whole lot in common other than being gay find their way to friendship…and maybe even more?
Now this is how a road trip romance should be written! Of course, I have no clue if there really is such a trope, but hey, I’m more than happy to put that label out there. Lowell and Brent’s relationship definitely didn’t take the route that I was expecting it to, and that made for a far more interesting read on my end. I enjoyed getting to know these two better. There wasn’t a whole lot of unnecessary drama and there wasn’t a whole lot of going around in circles as far as the story went. I liked seeing how Lowell’s and Brent’s families were and how they may have seemed different on the outside, really were both protective families that wanted the best for their sons. I also appreciated that the appearances of Caleb and Nathan were kept at a minimum while still having some impact on pushing the story forward. I’m curious to see if one particular couple in the making are going to be the next book in the series. For now, check out Pull & Push. 4.5 stars! ♥
