Review: "Gaming for Keeps" by Seleste deLaney (Agents of TRAIT #1)
Megara and Lohonas have each other's backs and will do whatever is necessary to protect and defend one another. Now, they appear to be ready to take the next step in their relationship: meet face-to-face. Penelope "Pen" Holloway and Calvin "Cal" Burrows get along famously on Heroes of Fallen Gods, an online multiplayer game, and while they've made plans to both go to ConDamned, a gamer convention, there are no guarantees their chemistry will translate as well offline, but they're willing to take risk it.
Pen and Cal have no idea how either one looks like and when they do meet, they never introduce themselves as Megara and Lohonas. Things between Pen and Cal appear to be sizzling but Cal's at the convention for another reason: he needs to put a stop on the dealings of a wanted arms dealer who is scheduled to be at ConDamned. Such is the life of a misfit agent from the Tactical Response and Investigative Team, aka TRAIT. It's about to get even more interesting when Pen's life is put in danger.
Gaming for Keeps is the first novella in the Agents of TRAIT series from author Seleste deLaney and is a romantic suspense thriller featuring two geeky but gorgeous online gamers, one of whom just happens to be an agent for a secret government agency. The story itself was fast-paced and pleasantly surprised me with the amount of action and romance. This being the first in a series, I found myself already interested in finding out more about TRAIT and the other agents mentioned, so it did its job as an introduction.
I liked that Pen and Cal were these geeky characters but could bring their A-game when necessary and they had a good chemistry going between the two of them. They were both comfortable in their own skin and seemed to be such an ideal match, like two peas in a pod...or maybe two players in a gamepod would be more apt. Gaming for Keeps was an overall enjoyable read and one that I easily finished in about an hour or so. If you like a bit of action to go with your love story, give this novella a shot. This gets 3.5 stars. ♥
