Taylor Krebs is a young woman who wants to be able to make photography her main source of livelihood. She's still trying to make a name for herself so she does a bit of waitressing to help with her finances. She's also still in school, trying to come up with a project that'll satisfy her professor enough for her to graduate and have him submit her work for a gallery showing. She's good at what she does and she hopes being chosen to take the photographs for a calendar of good looking and sexy bachelors will help drum up more business for her. When she meets a hot firefighter on the shoot, she gets more than she bargained for.

Joe Marino is a firefighter assigned to show up for a calendar shoot, hoping it'll drum up good PR for the station. While there, he notices the beautiful photographer but as much as he'd like to be with her on a more personal level, his main focus is on the services she can provide for a special book of portraits and stories of burn survivors, his sister being one, he's always wanted to put together. In Taylor, he sees a woman with a good eye and an empathy for those who have endured pain and suffering. They grow closer as they spend more time together, but Joe is still keeping his distance from the one woman he wants.

Both Taylor and Joe have been through their own painful experiences with their exes, and while that may be enough reason for them to be hesitant about starting anything romantic between the two of them, They're also keeping secrets from one another, both borne out of stubbornness. Taylor doesn't want to ask for help from anyone, Joe included, while Joe doesn't want to risk seeing the look of horror or pity on Taylor's face should she ever learn what he's hiding. Will Taylor and Joe ever be ready to put their hearts on the line for one another or will the love and trust they've cultivated all go up in smoke in the end?

Burning for You is the second novel in the Man of the Month series by Michele Dunaway and has two compassionate lead characters who have a lot of chemistry together. Taylor's past experiences have made her into the woman she is, and while Joe is wary about pursuing her romantically, it's obvious that she isn't like his ex. Joe's family and fellow firefighters and Taylor's best friend Marci were part of a good cast of supporting characters, providing humor when necessary but also showing that they want both Joe and Taylor to find happiness and peace together. This was a sweet and touching story and gets four stars. ♥
