The last place Elizabeth Marks wants to be is in strip club while attending the bachelorette party of a friend. The male strippers aren't doing anything for her at all...until she looks up and sees Matt Stokes, the club's owner and a former stripper himself. His return onstage is inspired by his wanting Elizabeth to feel something as he takes his clothes off and performs for her. Then he poses a challenge, one that will have Elizabeth return to the strip club on a regular basis for a month in order to see if her original opinion will have changed by the end of the allotted time period. As they spend more time together, they get in touch with parts of themselves they didn't think existed, but nothing more can come of it. It is merely physical and very temporary. After all, Matt isn't the kind of man Elizabeth sees herself falling for...until she does.

Taking It Off is a standalone contemporary romance from bestselling author Claire Kent and is about a buttoned-up teacher named Elizabeth Marks who finds herself lusting over, and later, falling for strip club owner Matt Stokes. While Matt was a nice guy trying to create a life for himself beyond the strip club and the memories it held for him, Elizabeth was a far more difficult main character to like. She came off as someone who thought a tad too highly of herself and had a tendency of looking down on the activities of people who didn't quite meet up to her standards of propriety. Though she certainly dropped her panties rather quickly for Matt, so obviously, he was right in testing her prudish way of thinking. No one else really stood out, except maybe for Robbie, the bartender at Bare Assets and a sounding board for Matt.

There's a lot of sex that goes on between Matt and Elizabeth, and shocker of all shockers, I found myself wishing there were fewer scenes involving them getting it on. Why? I wanted more of the story to pull me in, because I had high hopes for this book, what with it's enticing blurb and all. I wanted to be able to become invested in both Matt and Elizabeth, so that I could truly cheer them on as they tried to make their way to the happily-ever-after we all know is coming. The thing was, as much as I though Matt was a good guy, he wasn't enough for me to truly fall in love with the back. It just had an overall feeling of lacking something essential, and, admittedly, my mind wandered a lot while I was reading the story, starting and stopping numerous times. Taking It Off was okay but it did leave me wanting, so I'm giving it three stars. ♥
