Review: Logan by Melissa Foster (Wild Boys After Dark #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by Tasty Book Tours in exchange for an honest review.

The name she gives people is "Stormy Knight" and she offers as little personal information as possible, but there's a reason for all that. Stella Krane left her hometown of Mystic, Connecticut to get as far away from her ex-boyfriend as she could. His abuse turned into murderous rage and if he failed to end Stella's life once, she knows he'll stop anything to finish the job as soon as he finds her. So, she takes all necessary precautions and is living a life that's merely a shell of the one she used to have. But then she meets a private investigator named Logan Wild and he's the kind of man that stirs up emotions that she's kept at bay for so long. He makes her feel safe and protected while fulfilling her fantasies, but if Stella lets Logan break down the fortified walls of her heart, she may end up making him the target for her psychopath ex.

Logan is the first book in bestselling author Melissa Foster's newest series, Wild Boys After Dark, which are more explicit than her earlier stuff, and because I've read a few of those past books, I must say that while these are raunchier, they've still got the heart that you expect to find in stories penned by the author. I loved the connection that Logan Wild and Stella Krane share, one that's there from the beginning but isn't immediately acted upon, as Logan quietly watches her move behind the bar of NightCaps and Stella feeling his gaze. Logan is an alpha male through and through but he's not domineering or forceful, giving Stella the space she needs when she feels overwhelmed while reminding her that she's not alone. These two generate a lot of heat together but there's a sweetness and softness that belies the dirtier stuff.

The four books in the series are quite different from one another, although each of the Wild brothers appear to be dealing with their respective issues--whether they be related to commitment and relationship or something else entirely--while falling for the women in their lives. This series starter has a romantic suspense feel to it but it's more subtle than you would expect, with more emphasis on the romance aspect than the suspense. Stella's drug-dealing ex is keeping tabs on her and is likely to go after her once he's out of prison, but the author chooses to use focus on the escalating feeling of fear that Stella already has rather than using outright violence or the like, which I more than appreciated. Add to that the emphasis on love for family and Logan turned out to be a great five-starred read that gives you more than you expect. ♥
