Author Spotlight: Jamie Howard, Until We Break

I love it when a new author releases an extraordinary debut novel that makes them one to watch out for in the coming months and years. That's exactly what happened after I read Jamie Howard's debut release, Until We Break, and I'm hoping you'll join me in getting to know her a bit more through an interview in line with the book's release.

Enjoy!

A Q&A with Jamie Howard
1. What was your inspiration behind Until We Break?

A lot of the romances I’ve read (and loved) have starred a bad boy, damaged hero. But I had a much harder time finding the same type of troubled character in a heroine. So I decided that I wanted to write one, and that’s where the initial nugget of inspiration came from in the early stages of Until We Break.

2. Do you believe that falling in love with the same person is always better the second time around? Why or why not?

Not necessarily. I think love has a lot to do with timing. Sometimes you meet someone and that initial meeting is explosive and a second time simply isn’t necessary. Other times when you first meet a person you just aren’t ready for each other yet, and it takes time, and maybe distance, for things to really fall into place.

3. What has your experience as a newly published author been like?

Honestly, it’s been amazing. I can’t say enough about everyone at St. Martin’s Press. They’ve been truly incredible and made this a wonderful experience.

4. Who would you cast as Sloane Avery and Luke Evans if the book were to be made into a movie?

Somehow I just knew this question was coming, so I’ve spent the last few weeks agonizing over it. Luke was definitely the hardest for me to pin down—the dark hair, the light eyes, his devilish good looks. But, I think my top choice for him has to be Chace Crawford. And for Sloane, I’d have to go with Teresa Palmer. I can easily see her pulling off the complicated and varying facets of Sloane’s character.

5. What's the best advice you've received so far as a first-time author?

The writing community is really incredible and supportive. I’ve gotten so much advice and encouragement throughout the entire process. I think the best piece of advice I’ve received is to write what you love. Honestly, I think it makes all the difference.
